A LITTLE WEEKEND LOVE

Oh hey- remember me? The girl that writes this blog...oh, no? Awkward...

This weekend CJ and I got to stay at the fabulous Devil's Thumb Ranch tucked away in the mountains. I second shot a wedding for the incredible Megan Erickson of Perch Productions and oh.my.gosh was it beautiful or what!! Though it was a little chilly, it was an amazing time. Our room was immaculate and so relaxing, the view from the pool was breathtaking. Thank you Megan for having us, it was amazing!

RAINY DAY STYLE

Yesterday felt like I lived in Oregon. It rained ALL day- something I'm not really used to even though I've lived in Colorado my entire life! I wasn't surprised by the spout random crazy weather (sometimes it will snow, then be 75 degrees the next day!), and quite actually it was the perfect excuse to break in new boots and my favorite rain jacket!

THANK THE LORD FOR KEURIG

when i wake up, i try to always start the morning with a little God time. on the top of the thankful list today were my sweet friends...and coffee. you see, last year i gave up caffeine- not technically, but i made a little pact to myself that every time i would normally order a pop or a coffee, i'd substitute it by ordering a water. i'm the kind of girl who, when i go out to eat, will drink upwards of seven refills simply because i'm just not paying attention- so my whole deal worked out pretty great...until this semester started. early mornings + late nights, i'll be the first to admit, are not my thing. i feel like the cliche college student- addicted to coffee, but kind of poor ($4.23 every day at the cafe isn't very realistic!). but today i fueled my own obsession with a keurig!

so, thank you God, for great friends (who have keurigs...)!

how to make iced coffee with a keurig:

  • be sure to use the strongest/darkest kcup you can find! i used the cafe verona dark blend from starbucks (available at target, too!). because the milk will dilute, a medium blend won't work well.
  • after making, refrigerate for at least 1 hour. if the coffee is hot, or at most warm, it will melt the ice- which kind of defeats your purpose, huh?
  • once your coffee is nice and chilled, fill glass full with ice, then fill about 1/3 with milk (or more if you'd like-  just be sure to leave room for the coffee).
  • i added a splash of coffeemate vanilla latte syrup + a paper straw, because everything tastes better out of a cute straw, right?

DEAR SUMMER,

dear summer,

in you i walked away from good-enough, in search of can't-live-without. thank you for being such a beautiful place to lay in grass and not have much to worry about, a gorgeous backdrop to all the weddings and high school seniors i shot this season, and for the longer days (because God knows i really needed those every once in awhile!!). so long, summer. see ya next year!

IT'S NOT A HOME UNTIL YOU MAKE CINNAMON ROLLS

things i've learned this week:

1. you never quite realize how much your life depends on the internet until comcast tells you it will take three weeks to send a technician to you.

2. it's not really "home" until you make cinnamon rolls one morning.

3. unpacking is just plain torture. i can't wait to be all settled into my new place!!

ON MOVING

i always get emotional when i move. everything seems so sentimental...like blankets, countless already read books, and even the random sock missing its other half. i look at everything as if it will be lonely if it doesn't make the move with me. silly, i know, right? tomorrow, bright & early, i'm headed off to my new apartment with boxes upon boxes- memories, photographs, and even a few lone socks. as for the unpacking- wish me luck!
